Back to the weather…
All the New England areas are taking advantage of the cold air to make as much snow as possible. I anticipate trail counts ballooning as the weekend approaches. Keep an eye on Conditions.
Localized snow squalls have been dropping anything from a couple inches to over a foot around the northern regions. A select few resorts have been dealt Aces by Mother Nature this week. Specifically those mountains furthest north in VT…
MORE SNOW FRIDAY: There is a big weekend storm in the mix. The meteorologists and models are starting to show it making the turn up the coast. If so, it will have a much greater impact on Boston and the mountains of New England than was thought earlier this week. This storm is a quick hitter, but it should pack quite the punch. Matt Noyes of NECN has the dark purple (foot +) covering lots of ground on his maps.
The Ski season has come knocking.
It has arrived like a SWAT team with a battering ram.

BIG SNOWSTORM COMING FOR THE EAST
MAJOR COLD PATTERN WITH OFF AND ON SNOWS THROUGH LATE MONTH…
DO YOU WANT ME TO WRITE SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND STORM?..MAYBE 6-12″ IN BOSTON…SOME SKI AREAS…
More from Dr. Weather this AM….
DR. WEATHER–December 8th—no change in long range December outlook for active and cold eastern weather–big Friday storm coming major cities
Over the last month, we have been talking about why December would be colder and snowier than normal for much of the eastern United States including many important ski resorts. We had one week, two weeks ago, in which temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s and flooding rains, washed away an early established good base of snow across much of Vermont, New Hampshire to Sugarloaf, Maine. Many northern areas had over 40 inches of snow in early November–such as Sugarloaf, but almost all natural snow melted away. Now, in the last 5 days, Jay Peak has had 30 inches–the best powder in New England, Stowe about 24 and Sugarbush to Killington about 12″. Check out www.snocountry.org if you want to find out more about New Hampshire, as some snow has fallen but not nearly as much as New England.
The map above shows where the snow will be later tonight and tomorrow. The darkest blue represents possibly 10-20 inches of snow and the lighter blue and pink about 5-10 inches. It looks like the lower Catskills to the Pocono’s will really get nailed with this storm, but I am not sure which ski resorts are open. I am feeling more confident now that Mt. Snow could see 6-12″ from this system as well as much of southern New Hampshire. So if you want a powder day, Saturday will be great in southern New England–again, depending on which resorts are open. Ski areas such as Wachusett Mountain , which has been icy will see a least a foot of snow.
I think Killington will see at least 4-7″ from this system and Cannon, Loon westward to Sugarbush and Stowe at least 3-5″ more. Sugarloaf has been in trouble lately and may not get much but area making some snow.
Travel is not encouraged tomorrow with 5-10″ or more from New York City to Boston with Boston possibly receiving a foot or more by later Friday. If you are travelling to northern New England, you should leave later today if you live in New York, Conn. or Mass. Otherwise, southern New Englander’s will not have to travel too far on Saturday to find some good powder.
LONGER RANGE..I SEE A VERY ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR MUCH OF THE EAST WELL INTO LATE DECEMBER.

That is it for now.
Get yourselves up to Jay Peak this weekend!
Keep thinking snow,
