Skiing

Looking Good

Boston, MA

– Sunday morning I woke up and felt completely at peace. No alarm, no cell phone, no houseguest, no noise from the neighbor. It was snowing. The thermometer read thirty two degrees. I felt refreshed and relaxed. For me to see the flakes float to the ground is memorizing.

It kept snowing throughout the day and when my attention wandered to the television for the Patriots game. Snowing down at the stadium as well, perfect for football.
Skiing and the NFL have always had a special bound for the Ski Guru. The timing of the two coincides perfectly. Football, as a precursor to the ski season, provides a necessary weekend distraction while we wait for snow and watch resorts open across New England.
The really good news, even bordering on great news, is that we are looking at an extended cold spell in New England for at least the next seven days or so…

Ski areas will have their snow making systems redlined. I expect terrain expansions and more resorts to open all this week. We will be looking at an entirely new landscape of trail counts by next weekend.
There is the possibility for a storm on Tuesday. It will be a plowable event, but it looks like it will just clip south eastern New England, should drop a half foot as of this morning… But with the cold air in place we could see snow on and off all week.
Keep an eye on Conditions to find out what is happening up north.
My personal conundrum: I am waiting for more terrain, greater base depths and snow in the trees before I am willing to take out my new skis. My old skis no longer have any appeal. This coming weekend may be a green light…
Happy Monday,
S.G.
