Skiing

Skiing on the brain?

This past weekend a couple New England areas soothed the souls of many a skier or rider, unfortunately the mountains have since shut it down. If you must, blame the warm blast of air that has made walking around town fashionable again. Rest assured, winter will come. Take what happened last weekend as a blessing for many promising months ahead.

Until then take solace in memories. The joys of the distinct feeling gravity provokes on the body as one glides effortlessly down a pitch. The joined feelings of bliss, amusement and harmony only the skier has with the mountain. Truly a personal familiarity to be relished and relived as the need and desire arise. It will not happen tomorrow, but the skies will be filled with flakes yet again.
Alright already, enough moping. there are some things going on worth mentioning that will hold you over, at least this weekend. Below find some quick face shots.
The new Warren Miller movie, Higher Ground is playing at the Somerville Theater – Thursday night, show times at 7 & 10 PM. Can not make it? Check it Friday or Saturday nights at the Berkley Performance Center (show times at 6:30 & 9:30, 6 & 9 – respectively). No doubt this years release will uphold the timeless quality the Ski Film mogul has brought to the silver screen every fall for decades. A great fix.
The Weather is not looking so hot; actually that is exactly what it will be, no pun intended. Warm air will be present around the mountains for the remainder of this week. The 15 day forecasts are calling for a return to colder air by next week, with luck frosty enough for some good, sustained snowmaking efforts. I just hope all the white gold from that Nor’easter last week has not melted away by then. Stay tuned, no one really has a sniff when glimpsing that far out in the future.

Thirsty you say? Pats Peak is hosting their October Fest in November, sponsored by Boston’s very own Harpoon Brewery. Admission is FREE. There is also a ski sale that morning—No Tax! Load up on some new gear and celebrate with some pops, German eats and music. There will be children’s activities, a woodsmen show (got me) and some Shooting Demos from mounted Cowboys. Would you expect anything less from the Live Free or Die state? All the fun and spirits get started this Sunday at 11 AM.
That’s all for now folks.
Think COLD, but do not be bitter!
