Wahlburgers will open a new location in Dorchester
The Wahlberg brothers are coming home.
It looks like the Walhberg brothers may be bringing their expanding burger chain back home.
The brothers have signed a lease for a space in their hometown of Dorchester, according to the restaurant’s spokesperson. The space is 5,000 square feet and will be within the South Bay Town Center development, the spokesperson confirmed.
The shopping center has proposed a major expansion that would result in construction of several six-story buildings containing up to 500 apartments, 200 hotel rooms, a cinema, and stores, according to The Boston Globe.
“We’re going home,’’ Paul Wahlberg told the Globe.
Wahlberg said the location would “probably not be open for another year, at least.’’
No other information about the lease was released as of Friday morning.
Dorchester was home to the brothers, who spent their childhood and the early stages of their music careers in the Boston neighborhood. One of their childhood homes is on Mercier Street, and was featured in an episode of the family’s reality T.V. show “Wahlburgers.’’ Many family members still live in the area.
Expansion has always been the goal of Mark, Donnie, and Paul. The burger joint unveiled in December its plan to add 100 to 150 new locations in the next five years. Wahlburgers already has multiple locations in Massachusetts, New York, and Toronto.
