¡Feliz Navidad, Somerville! Tenoch to open Thursday in Davis Square

Christmas is coming early to Somerville this year.

The highly-acclaimed Tenoch Mexican restaurant is opening their new location in Davis Square on Thursday.

The Medford-based restaurant, known for their tortas and tacos, announced the arrival of its third location on 382 Highland Avenue earlier this week.

Tenoch also has a location in the North End, which opened in 2014, as well as two food trucks operating in Boston and Cambridge. The eatery was first opened in Medford Square by brothers Alvaro and Andres Sandoval in 2012.

The owners announced this summer they were pursuing opening a third restaurant, filling the former location of M3, a Southern restaurant that was shuttered in 2014.

Tenoch quickly garnered local recognition for their tortas — Mexican pressed sandwiches containing tomatoes, onions, avocados, black bean spread, lettuce, chipotle mayo, and various combinations of chorizo, ham, carnitas, chicken, or cheese.

In May, Tenoch was named the best Mexican restaurant in Massachusetts by Yahoo, and has won manylocalaccolades as well.
