Couple Injured Together in Boston Marathon Bombing Calls It Quits

Rebekah Gregory, 27, and Pete DiMartino, 30, who were married 10 months ago after surviving serious injuries from the Boston Marathon bombing, have separated. The couple decided to separate shortly after Gregory “broke up’’ with her left leg in November 2014 after 17 rounds of painful surgery and recovery, Gregory told People.com:

“While my heart is beyond broken, I have a certain peace knowing from day one, I truly gave it my all, and have been fully invested in keeping this marriage, and my commitment before God. I still love Pete with all of my heart and ask that everyone respect our privacy as we try to figure out our next steps. As for now, I am focused on doing what I feel is best for my son and I, and will concentrate my time on healing, both physically and emotionally.’’

Gregory is preparing to run the 2015 Boston Marathon on April 20 on a new prosthetic.

The couple’s wedding took place at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, approximately one year after they both suffered their injuries. It was organized and paid for by The Knot when readers voted for the couple to win the Dream Wedding Contest.

Gregory’s experience shopping for her wedding dress was also featured as the season finale of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.

The couple was injuried together at the Copley Square finish line while watching DiMartino’s mother run the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.
