A newly released study may give some reassurance to local parents: Massachusetts is the second best state in the nation for a child’s overall well-being, according to a report by charitable organization Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Massachusetts came in just after Minnesota, which earned the top spot, and just before Iowa, which was third highest. New Hampshire and Connecticut also represented New England in the top five, securing the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

In order to calculate the list, the foundation’s Kids Count Data Center, a source that provides information on child and family well-being in the U.S., gave each state a composite ranking from combined data based on f economic well-being, education, health, and family and community.

The Data Center also provided four uncombined state rankings in those four categories. Massachusetts came in at eleventh on the economic well-being list, first in education, fourth in health, and eighth in family and community.
