A teacher shares quotes from her students on Instagram, and it’s hilarious
Kids say the darndest things.
“I’m going to live at my mom’s house forever … or until it smells like old people. Then I’ll leave.’’
“It’s never a good idea to lick a monkey.’’
“They say girls can’t fart, but I heard mommy fart yesterday.’’
As we all know, kids say the funniest things. And when their quotes are posted online with cute little illustrations to match, it’s social media gold. Welcome to “Live from Snack Time!,’’ a popular Instagram account managed by a second-grade teacher in New York City. She has taken pains to remain anonymous to protect her students’ privacy but agreed to chat with Boston.com about her success.
“People are really responding to the pictures,’’ she said. “I think it sort of brings life to the quotes.’’
Did she ever imagine “Live from Snack Time!’’ would be such a hit?
“Not at all!’’ she said, with a laugh. “Oh my gosh, it is so much fun!’’
It all began about a year ago when she was teaching kindergarten. After a math lesson, she asked her students what they learned. Here’s what one child said:

“It was so funny, the way he sort of interpreted the info and was able to express that,’’ said the teacher. “I thought it was remarkable how the brain works. I thought it was so genuine.’’
That’s when she began writing stuff down.
“These quotes were just too good not to share,’’ she said.
For the first six months, the quotes were strictly from her own students. But now she asks the public to submit their own and, in the past week alone, she’s accepted quotes from all over the U.S., Australia, and the United Kingdom.
When asked why she feels the quotes have struck such a chord with people, the teacher said, “I just think early childhood is interesting, because kids are trying to figure out the world. Their questions are just pure and genuine.’’
The Instagram account has more than 45,000 followers. “Live from Snack Time!’’ is also on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr, but it’s the Instagram account that has really exploded. She asked a friend to serve as art director for the project and provide illustrations for the quotes.
What are some of her favorite quotes? She likes this one:

School may be letting out for the summer, but this teacher will keep on quoting. She has enough submissions to keep her busy for months and plans to continue posting her students’ questions and insights in the fall.
“I don’t think we can run out!’’ she said.
