Make Your Own Doll at the Artbeat in Arlington
If you’re looking to do something more hands-on and crafty, check out the doll-making workshop at the Artbeat Creativity Store & Studio in Arlington. Your child (and you) can celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by making a doll representing a culture from anywhere in the world, decorating your creation with jewelry and designing your own fabric pattern for the doll’s clothing. Boys and girls age eight and over can participate independently, but younger kids will require an adult helper.

For those not looking for a kid-friendly event, the 45th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast at the Boston Convention Center is a good choice. Separate of breakfast, the event includes speeches and live music. The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Cleveland Sellers. Other invited speakers include Governor Charles Baker, Mayor Martin Walsh, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Proceeds from the event will go to programs sponsored by the Union Methodist Church and St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church.
