After years of fielding complaints about its service, the MBTA finally has something to celebrate. It turns out, despite the recurring criticism, Bostonians are actually using the service more than ever.

“For the first time in MBTA history, ridership in a single month topped 37 million passenger trips,’’ the statement said, “Last month, the MBTA recorded 37.280 million passenger trips, 1.5% higher than October 2013, which had held the previous record for monthly ridership.’’

General Manager, Beverly Scott, said that ridership not only increased on the subway but also the commuter rail and commuter boat.

This record breaking month came only three months after the MBTA decided to increase their fares across all modes of transportation by five percent.

The statement revealed that on an average weekday in October of this year, there were approximately 1.377 million passenger trips.

Looks like Boston commuters do rely on this system after all.
