Logan Airport Rental Car Snake May Be Reunited With Owner

The Internet is buzzing about a stowaway snake discovered in a rental car from Logan Airport Wednesday night. It seems the mystery of where it came from may be solved.

Two women flew into Logan Airport, rented a car, tossed their luggage in the trunk, and drove 90 minutes north to Maine. When they arrived at their destination, the Port Inn in Kennebunk, they discovered a 4-foot long ball python curled up beside their bags in the trunk.

They immediately called the police.

“They were pretty shaken up,’’ Kennebunk Deputy Police Chief Dan Jones told the Press Herald. “They wanted a new rental car even after we removed the snake.’’

How the snake got into the car has been a mystery — until now.

Jones told Boston.com this morning that the snake’s potential owner reached out to police after seeing a news story about it.

“A woman called and we put her in touch with Sparks because she lost her snake and she’s pretty sure this is it,’’ said Jones.

Police turned the snake over to the Maine Warden Service yesterday, which then took it to Sparks Ark Animal Services in New Gloucester.

Jones did not know the woman’s identity, but said her husband works at or near the airport. Boston.com called Sparks to see if the woman had gotten in touch yet, but there was no immediate answer.
