The Globe magazine’s “12 Favorite Vacation Spots in New England’’ is a good place to start.

The magazine highlighted two classic spots per New England state — Lenox and Provincetown in Massachusetts, Bretton Woods and Wolfeboro in New Hampshire, Bar Harbor and Old Orchard Beach in Maine, Litchfield Hills and Mystic in Connecticut, Newport and Tiverton and Little Compton in Rhode Island, and Stowe and Woodstock in Vermont.
