Cape Ann a Budget-Friendly Spring Vacation Spot
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly trip this spring, look no further than the Cape. Cape Ann, that is.
It may not be as trendy as Cape Cod, but Cape Ann is less pricy, less crowded, and still oozes New England charm. That’s why Budget Travel has named Cape Ann one of the 10 Best Budget Vacations for Spring. Cape Ann, located 45 minutes north of Boston, is comprised of Essex, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport. Explore in April and May before the busier summer season and you’ll discover bargains.
Longing to wake up to a view of the ocean? You can make it happen for less than $100 a night at places like the Blue Shutters Beachside Inn, where you can book a room with a view of Good Harbor Beach for as low as $80 in the off-season.
Want to eat at some of the area’s finest restaurants for less money? Attend Cape Ann Restaurant Week, which takes place each April. During this six-day event, many of the area’s finest restaurants offer a two-tier priced, three-course meal.
Bargains aside, Budget Travel editors point to Cape Ann’s old-fashioned streets, ample beaches full of fine white sand, historic lighthouses, and locally sourced meals as excellent reasons to spend time there this spring.
Another draw highlighted by Budget Travel is Rocky Neck Art Colony, one of the oldest working art colonies in the country. “The Neck’’ has attracted artists Milton Avery and Winslow Homer as well as writers Louisa May Alcott and Rudyard Kipling to its picturesque shores.
