Beer meets bikes in Vermont

Bike tours that take beer-lovers to visit craft breweries are offered around the country, ranging from tours that last several hours to more challenging trips that unfold over several days. Seeing as Vermont boasts the most breweries per capita, as well as a stunning, rolling landscape, it’s a natural marriage for Green Mountain State visitors.

Sojourn Bicycling Vacations’ Vermont Bike and Brew Tour, takes bikers on a scenic six-day, five-night trip to visit craft breweries.

Tour companies have also come up with a variety of strategies to prevent biking under the influence, including limiting swigs and providing back-up vans.

The price for the Vermont Bike and Brew is $2,195 over six days and five nights, and includes most meals and lodging.

The tour begins and ends in Burlington, and averages 55 miles of biking per day.

Tastings are held along the way at the likes of The Alchemist, Trout River, Rock Art, and Hill Farmstead. There is also a private reception with Sam von Trapp of Trapp Family Lodge Brewery, and visits to Ben and Jerry’s and a Vermont cider mill.
