The Tanglewood music series has solidified its lineup for its yearly Popular Artists series with a litany of genres represented.
The Lenox institution recently added Jon Batiste, Brandi Carlile, Jason Mraz, Roger Daltrey of The Who and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty to its summer concerts at the 5,700-capacity Koussevitzky Music Shed. They join previously announced artists like Kool & the Gang and En Vogue (June 23); James Taylor (July 3-4); the Pretenders (July 16); Judy Collins, Rufus Wainwright, and Indigo Girls (Aug. 30); and Dispatch with the Boston Pops (Aug. 31).
This year will be the 86th Tanglewood festival hosted by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Here’s a full rundown of the newly added Popular Artists performers:
John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival graces the Tanglewood stage on June 20. From “Fortunate Son” to “Bad Moon Rising,” Fogerty created many great hits with CCR. Today, Fogerty is on a “Celebration Tour” with George Thorogood and the Destroyers since gaining back the rights to his extensive music catalog. Also joining Fogerty are his two sons, Shane and Tyler Fogerty, in their band Hearty Har.
Roger Daltrey, The Who’s founding lead singer, has also released 10 solo albums, and for this performance promises to bring Who hits and rarities, solo hits, and other songs from his near 60-year career, performed with a new semi-acoustic rock-based band. Plus, a Q&A! Daltrey and special guest KT Tunstall take the stage on June 22.
Jon Batiste, a Juilliard graduate and world-renowned composer, was the longtime bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and is only the second Black composer to win an Academy Award. Batiste swept the 2021 Grammys, winning five awards including Album of the Year for “WE ARE.” Now, Batiste has released the ambitious “World Music Radio” album with guest artists like Lana del Ray, Lil Wayne, and NewJeans. He comes to Tanglewood on June 28.
Brandi Carlile, a 15-time Grammy Award winner, returns to Tanglewood on June 30. Carlile played in 2022 with the Indigo Girls, who will also perform this August with Judy Collins and Rufus Wainwright. Carlile has spanned genres from country to rock, including as a member of the supergroup The Highwomen. Since beginning her solo career in 2005, Carlile has released seven more albums.
Jason Mraz makes his Tanglewood debut alongside the Boston Pops. After the release of his eighth studio album, a second-place win on “Dancing with the Stars,” and a Broadway run in “Waitress” as Dr. Pomatter, Mraz returns to the concert stage. The Pops will be conducted by Sean O’Loughlin, conductor of the Victoria Symphony and New York’s Symphoria. Mraz and the Boston Pops will perform on July 2.
Tickets for the newly added shows go on sale on Tuesday, March 19, at 10 a.m..
