Boston Calling attendees will have to make some difficult choices, again
Once again, there are lots of great performers with overlapping set times.
Set times for the 2018 Boston Calling Music Festival were announced Thursday, and fans will once again face difficult choices about which of the more than 60 performances to prioritize during the three-day event that runs May 25-27 at the Harvard Athletic Complex.
The festival’s three headlining acts — The Killers on Friday, Jack White on Saturday, and Eminem on Sunday — are the only artists whose sets will happen during times at which no other artists are scheduled to perform. Every other performer will hit the stage at the same time as at least one other artist, potentially diverting fans and attention.
Rock groups The National and Paramore will play almost simultaneous sets on Friday night, from 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and from 8:05 p.m. to 9:20 p.m., respectively. On Saturday, rockers Queens of the Stone Age and rapper Tyler, the Creator will perform from 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. to 9:20 p.m., respectively, while singer Khalid and indie rock group Fleet Foxes both will play from 7:55 p.m. to 9:05 p.m. on Sunday.
At other times, festival attendees will have to decide between music and performers on the entertainment stage. Do you watch the politically charged podcast Lovett or Leave It from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday or see the politically charged rock band Pussy Riot from 6:20 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.? Do you experience the indie comedy stylings of David Cross from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Sunday or jam out to indie rockers The Decembrists from 6:05 p.m. to 7:05 p.m.?
