10 Boston concerts that are close to selling out

Act fast if you want to scoop up hot tickets to Jonathan Richman, Lake Street Dive, or any of these other shows.

Lake Street Dive. Danny Clinch

Do you ever assume you can wait to get tickets at the door to your favorite shows, only to find that they already sold out? We consulted promoters from different venues around town—Jason Trefts of Illegally Blind, Jared Dobson of Bowery Boston, and Ryan Agate of RTT Presents—to warn you about which Boston concerts are running low on tickets. If you snooze this time, don’t say we never told you so.

Russian Circles

Instrumental metal trio Russian Circles has developed a loyal following in their 10 years as a band. August’s Guidance was another successful release for the group. It was produced by Kurt Ballou, guitarist for local band Converge, which may help explain why tickets are going quickly. (Wednesday, September 28 at 8 p.m.; The Sinclair; $20; 18+; with Helms Alee; tickets available here)

Electric Six

Detroit dance-punk group Electric Six is one of the more prolific modern acts of their ilk, having released 12 studio albums since 2003. Fresh Blood for Tired Vampyres is the latest, and it comes out October 7. Middle East Upstairs is a small venue for a band of their stature, so if you’re looking to go, buy soon. (Thursday, September 29 at 8 p.m.; Middle East Upstairs; $15; all ages; with In The Whale, Sidewalk Driver; tickets available here)

Tacocat

Seattle feminist punk group Tacocat not only has a catchy name, but three records’ worth of catchy tunes. The quartet is no stranger to Boston, either, but this time, they come equipped with a new album and their theme song to the recently rebooted cartoon The Powerpuff Girls. It could be the last time you get to see Tacocat in the modestly-sized Great Scott, so don’t miss your chance before it fills up. (Thursday, September 29 at 9 p.m.; Great Scott; $13; 18+; with Dude York, Yairms; tickets available here)

The Mowgli’s

It may be fall, but summer vibes can live on in music. Perhaps that’s why tickets are going quickly to see beachy LA alt-rockers The Mowgli’s. Do so before the sunshine becomes a distant memory. (Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.; The Sinclair; $15, 18+; with Colony House, Dreamers; tickets available here)

Porches

Porches has made frequent visits to Boston in the five years since they emerged out of SUNY Purchase. Now, with a new synthy sound on February’s Pool, it’s no surprise that demand is high to see the indie quintet on their biggest Boston stage yet. (Wednesday, October 5 at 8 p.m.; The Sinclair; $15, 18+; with Japanese Breakfast, Rivergazer; tickets available here)

Lake Street Dive

Local favorite and New England Conservatory product Lake Street Dive is back with a new record called Side Pony, and is sure to be met with plenty of Boston love. The band has grown from the intimate basement of Lizard Lounge to the Boston Calling stage to, now, headlining the Wang Theatre. Don’t miss your chance to see them on the way up. (Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.; Citi Wang Theatre; $39-$49; all ages; with Rubblebucket; tickets available here)

Mouth of the Architect

Ohio sludge metal quartet Mouth of the Architect heads up a heavy bill at Allston’s O’Brien’s Pub. The club can only pack in so many metalheads, so if you want to be there to witness this show, you better act soon. (Friday, October 7 at 8 p.m.; O’Brien’s; $10; 21+; with So Hideous, Zvi, Rozamov; tickets available here)

Trophy Lungs

Allston punk group Trophy Lungs has become something of a house band at O’Brien’s over the past many years. Fittingly, the hole-in-the-wall bar will be the site of their final show, which promoter Ryan Agate says is already sold out on presale; however, a limited number of tickets will be available at the door the night of the show. (Saturday, October 15 at 8 p.m.; O’Brien’s; $10; 21+; with Choke Up, Bottlecaps, New Warden; Yo Ticonderoga; information available here)

Bianca Del Rio

Acting, comedy, costume design—there’s not much that drag queen Bianca Del Rio doesn’t do. The RuPaul’s Drag Race winner will bring her traveling show and foul mouth to Royale, but space is running low, so act quickly if you want to experience the fun. (Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m.; Royale; $37.50; 18+; tickets available here)

Jonathan Richman

Natick native, Modern Lovers frontman, songwriter of former potential Massachusetts state rock song, and all around rock ‘n’ roll cult hero Jonathan Richman is doing four consecutive nights at Middle East Upstairs. According to promoter Jason Trefts, all four shows are selling quickly, but the closer on the 26th is packing up faster than the rest. (Saturday, November 26 at 7 p.m.; Middle East Upstairs; $20; 18+; tickets available here)
