Brian Wilson will play Pet Sounds with The Boston Pops this summer
The Beach Boy is heading on tour for the album’s 50th anniversary.
Wouldn’t it be nice to honor the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys? The Boston Pops Orchestra are providing that opportunity this June with Beach Boy Brian Wilson himself.
Wilson will be on tour from March to October to play the iconic 1966 album in its entirety as both a celebration and a send off of Pet Sounds. Former bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin will join Wilson and his band. They’ll make stops in multiple countries, plus play a full U.S. tour that includes two Boston dates: June 17 and 18 at Symphony Hall.
“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,’’ Wilson said in a press release. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.’’
Though it met a lukewarm reaction at its debut, Pet Sounds has since received critical acclaim as one of the most progression pop albums ever. Rolling Stone named it as the second-best album of all time, only behind The Beatles’s St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Along with all of Pet Sounds, fans can also expect to hear top hits and favorites from Wilson’s 54-year-long career, according to the release. Tickets go on sale January 29.
