Even Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes has Jay Foster on the brain.

“Let me ask you something,’’ said Howard to the Boston Calling crowd at City Hall Plaza on Sunday night. “Is Jay Foster here?’’

She was, of course, asking for the Jay Foster that Michael Bergin made famous in the viral fishing video dripping with expletives and a very thick Boston accent. The two friends from Malden were fishing in Boston Harbor when they reacted wildly upon spotting a massive sunfish.

When Foster didn’t emerge from the Boston Calling crowd, Howard said, “Well this one is for Jay — sweet baby Jay,’’ before launching into “Guess Who’’ from the band’s new album “Sound & Color.’’

Later on, Howard proved she loved Boston for more than just its viral fishing videos.

“I remember the first time I played here in Boston, at the Paradise club,’’ said Howard. “It was spectacular. So I know about this town.’’
