Pops to Kick Off Lockhart’s 20th Season on May 6
On May 6 the Boston Pops will kick off its 2015 season, simultaneously launching Keith Lockhart’s 20th as the orchestra’s conductor.
Lockhart’s milestone of a season will include the first-ever “By Popular Demand’’ series. The five concerts between May 7 and June 5 will feature live voting, in which the audience will be able to choose the Pops’s selections by voting on their mobile devices.
Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters will kick things off with the Pops on May 6. Peters was first nominated for a Tony in 1972 (On the Town) and won her first Tony in 1986 (Song & Dance). Peters will also perform with the Pops on July 5 at Tanglewood, one of six of the orchestra’s shows in the Berkshires this season.
Other season highlights, which were unveiled Sunday, include a Pops performance with Sheryl Crow at Tanglewood on June 16, two performances alongside Tony winner Audra McDonald (June 2-3), and three performances of Singin’ In the Rain accompanied by the film, May 8-9.
Tickets for the Pops season at Symphony Hall go on sale on March 23 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased on the Pops’s website.
