Attention: Boston-based artists.

Boston Calling has unveiled a contest called “Blank Canvas,’’ and they want you to submit your artwork.

The contest “gives artists the opportunity to concept and create a 36×60’’ mural inspired by Boston Calling,’’ according to a statement. Five winning works will be chosen and displayed during the fall edition (Sept. 5-7) of the festival.

Each of the five winners will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize (including $250 for supplies) and four 3-day VIP tickets to catch acts like Lorde, The National, and Nas x The Roots.

“We are always seeking ways to extend our connection to the community and further celebrate the talents of the people that make Boston, and the entire region, vibrant,’’ Brian Appel, co-founder of Boston Calling, said in a statement.

“At this past May’s festival, every time we saw a blank wall, we felt we missed an opportunity to have an artist display their work,’’ Appel added.

Artists are asked to submit concepts of their mural ideas, then festival organizers will judge the submissions with “the help of festival’s social media fans,’’ (so be ready to have your mock-up on display) and five winners will be chosen by Aug. 12.

The winners will have around three weeks to bring their concept to life.

Here’s the skinny on the contest rules:

1. Concepts for mural entries must be submitted to [email protected] byAug. 5 on an 8.5 x 11-inch PDF.

2. The mural must be inspired in some form by Boston Calling (music, pride in the community, an artist’s vantage point, etc.).

3. Each submission must be accompanied with the artist’s name, contact information, and 100-word description of the submission.
