The Civil War. World War II. Gigantic robots from outer space fighting other gigantic robots from outer space.
In the new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film in Michael Bay’s extremely profitable franchise, the bloodiest wars in American history are juxtaposed with an impending robot invasion to end all invasions. Anthony Hopkins, who’s fresh off dealing with a robot world of his own in Westworld, is on hand to narrate.
In the video’s final moments, the two most recognizable good guy Transformers, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, are on opposite sides.
“Forgive me,” Optimus says, as he prepares to finish off Bumblebee with a swift stab of his steely spike while Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager pleads for mercy.
In the end, whether Wahlberg and his CGI pals make a good movie or not is immaterial. In this world, nothing is certain, except death, taxes, and Transformers movies making hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office.
