Newton’s John Krasinski, most known for his acting roles in The Office and the recent film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, made his directorial debut in 2009 with Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. On August 29, the second film he’s directed, The Hollars, is opening nationwide after premiering at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and later at Boston’s Independent Film Festival.
Krasinski also appears in the movie’s lead role as a guy named John with a pregnant girlfriend (Anna Kendrick)who goes home to tend to his sick mom (Margo Martindale) and distraught dad (Richard Jenkins). As with any coming-home tale, all the old stuff from John’s past returns to potentially ruin his new life. Such old stuff includes his former high school flame (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who wants to rekindle a romance even though she’s started a family with another guy (Charlie Day), and John’s brother (Sharlto Copley), who has seemingly fallen down a rabbit hole of failing in many aspects of life.
