Matt Damon: ‘I like Bourne better than Bond’

He might be a little biased.

While some actors seem to be embarking on worldwide publicity tours campaigning to be the next James Bond (ahem), Matt Damon is in a new GQ Australia feature throwing a little shade toward the international man of mystery. Damon told the publication that the secret agent he portrays in the Bourne franchise is the superior action hero compared to Bond.

“I like Bourne better than Bond,” Damon told GQ Australia. “Bourne has today’s values; Bond has the values of the 1960s. Daniel’s Bond has upgraded him and brought him more into the present, but, classically, that character is a misogynist who likes swilling martinis and killing people and not giving a sh—.”

British actor Daniel Craig has played the most recent iteration of Bond since 2005. Rumored contenders to replace him include Idris Elba, Damian Lewis, and Aidan Turner. Meanwhile, Damon has played Jason Bourne since 2002 and is the lead in four out of the five Bourne movies. (Jeremy Renner played the lead in The Bourne Legacy.) Jason Bourne, the latest film in the series, is due out in theaters July 29.

“And Bourne would obviously win [against Bond] in a fight,” Damon added.

Well, yeah. The punching certainly makes it look that way.
