Documentary on NH-raised journalist James Foley gets Sundance audience award
It premieres on HBO this month.
While one movie with local connections — Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and John Krasinski’s Manchester by the Sea — garnered critical praise at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, another film with ties to New England is also being well-received by audiences.
Jim: The James Foley Story, a documentary about the life and death of New Hampshire-raised journalist James Foley, accepted the Audience Award for U.S. Documentary. Foley was murdered by ISIS militants in 2014.
The film was directed by Brian Oakes and co-written by Boston.com employee Heather MacDonald. Both Oakes and MacDonald are childhood friends of Foley’s.
Jim was acquired by HBO and will premiere on the premium network on February 6.
