While Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass got no love from the Golden Globe nominations, the folks behind the Critics’ Choice Awards must have felt a bit differently.

Among the Critics’ Choice Awards nominees, announced Monday morning, Johnny Depp earned a Lead Actor nomination for his role as Bulger. Black Mass earned a nom in the Best Hair & Makeup category, as well.

Spotlight, a frontrunner going into awards season, also received a number of Critics’ Choice nominations (following three Golden Globes noms): Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo, Best Supporting Actress for Rachel McAdams, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.

The Martian, starring Matt Damon, scored a whopping nine noms, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Damon, to name just a few. Acton’s Steve Carell received a Lead Actor nomination for his role in The Big Short, a film also starring Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale.

The 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards air January 17, 2016 — after the Golden Globes, before the SAG Awards — at 8 p.m. on A&E, Lifetime, and LMN. Find a full list nominees here.
