Ben Affleck will direct a new Batman movie
After he finishes a million other projects.
It looks like Ben Affleck can now add a solo Batfilm to his never-ending list of projects.
After months of speculation and rumors, Deadline confirmed just in time for Comic-Con (and his divorce—just saying) that Affleck will indeed co-write, direct, and star in a standalone Batman film. He joins DC Comics’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns on the screenplay, a huge name in the comic book scene. Johns is known for writing some of DC’s greatest series like Green Lantern and Justice League, and also superhero TV shows like Smallville, Arrow, and CBS’s upcoming Supergirl.
The Batman project is already underway, Deadline says, and that the pair is likely to turn in a script by the end of the summer season. But don’t expect production to break ground any time soon.
For right now, Affleck already has his hands in so many other jobs, including the film adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Live by Night, set to start shooting this November. In the meantime, Affleck’s Batman debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for next March, and a two-part Justice League will follow in 2017.
