Ghostbusters 3 Would Look Way Different with the Original Cast
Bill Murray was never going to be a part of this thing anyway, but it’s fun to see whether he could pull it off. The hair may be grayer, the skin may be more wrinkled, but anyone familiar with Murray’s antics knows he still has the energy of a young man. Just look at those eyes and tell us we’re wrong.

Dan Aykroyd has been pushing for a third movie since he wrote a draft of Ghostbusters 3 in 1999, even calling himself “the cheerleader’’ for a sequel in an interview with The Telegraph. He may have put on a few pounds since 1984, but who hasn’t? Aykroyd’s love of the franchise alone should give him a role in the new film, even if he isn’t a lead.

Harold Ramis was said to be involved in Ghostbusters 3, reportedly even including a cameo in the film. But after he passed away in February, most fans agreed that the sequel wouldn’t be the same without him. Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters films, pulled out as director in March and said Ramis’ death was a factor in the decision.

Ernie Hudson was a little bitter over his role in the franchise, telling The Daily Mail that Ghostbusters was “one of the most painful movies I’ve ever done.’’ He said his character had a smaller role than he had anticipated and his career suffered after the movies came out. Of course, none of that seems to be a dealbreaker since, in that same interview, he said he would “be happy to work’’ on a new Ghostbusters.

Of course, even as the cast got older, some things didn’t change. We’re hoping that the new Ghostbusters crew has the decency to use the same headquarters as the original. Hook and Ladder 8 in New York City looks as good as it did in 1984. That doesn’t mean it looks good, but at least it would be consistent.
