Third ‘Ghostbusters’ Movies Is Happening: Starring ‘Hilarious Women’
After years and years (and years) of false starts, rumors, and fanboy speculation, “Bridesmaids’’ director Paul Feig confirmed Wednesday that a new “Ghostbusters’’ movie is in the works and will star “hilarious women.’’

A third film has been rumored for years ever since 2002 when IGN reviewed a 1999 screenplay titled “Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent,’’ reportedly written by original star Dan Aykroyd. The actual production of a third “Ghostbusters’’ film has always seemed to hinge on the involvement of Bill Murray, who has been reluctant to reprise the role of Dr. Peter Venkman. The death of Harold Ramis earlier this year resulted in director Ivan Reitman declining to be involved.
The rumors resumed in August when Variety and the Hollywood Reporter linked director Paul Feig to the project with an all-female cast.
Who the “hilarious women’’ will be is yet to be determined — but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Maya Rudolph.
