The buzz surrounding the Nov. 21 release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1’’ continues with today’s announcement that Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lorde will curate the soundtrack for the film.

“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,’’ Lorde said in a statement. “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.’’

The 17-year-old “Royals’’ singer will not only be hand-picking the featured artists for the Republic Records’ album, she’ll also be penning and recording its first single.

“I sat down with Lorde on the set of ‘Mockingjay’ this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film,’’ the film’s director, Francis Lawrence, said in a statement.

“I can’t wait to share what she’s done with the fans — it is truly remarkable,’’ Lawrence added.

Lorde, a New Zealand native, has a busy few months ahead of her with her third national North American tour kicking off this fall, including a headlining stop at the fall edition of Boston Calling.
