Watch thousands of flags planted on the Boston Common for Memorial Day
Each one represents a Massachusetts service member who died in action.
Each year, the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund gathers hundreds of volunteers to blanket the Boston Common in miniature American flags. The patriotic garden at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument is made up of more than 37,000 flags, each representing a Massachusetts service member who has died in action since the Revolutionary War, according to the fund.
