RI State House lit up in memory of domestic violence victims
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island State House was lit up with purple light as dozens gathered this week to remember the victims of domestic violence.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and organizers said the Tuesday vigil was about healing. WPRI-TV reports participants were invited to hold candles, listen to live music and poetry, and read stories of Rhode Island residents who lost their lives to domestic violence.
Speakers included domestic violence survivors, advocates and family members of victims.
The State House will continue to be lit up purple for the remainder of the week.
