Watch: The 2017 Boston Common tree lighting
The Boston Common’s Christmas tree has made it down from Nova Scotia and was lit in a ceremony Thursday night with Mayor Marty Walsh and Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil.
This year’s tree marks the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion, the deadliest non-natural disaster in Canadian history. Nova Scotia has made a tradition of sending Boston a Christmas tree each year as a thank-you gift for the city’s aide following the explosion.
