New England’s SpikedSeltzer is now selling fizzy alcoholic drinks nationwide

The hard seltzer company is in the midst of a national expansion.

Fans of SpikedSeltzer can now enjoy the boozy carbonated water almost anywhere in the country.

The Connecticut-based hard seltzer brand is going national. On Monday, SpikedSeltzer became available in 48 states nationwide. Florida and Texas will start receiving deliveries in April, according to Boston Magazine.

SpikedSeltzer, which contains 6 percent alcohol, is naturally flavored and gluten-free. It comes in four flavors: Cape Cod Cranberry, Valencia Orange, West Indies Lime, and Indian River Grapefruit.

The company kicked off its national expansion with an announcement that it would begin selling SpikedSeltzer in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and South, adding 11 new U.S. markets to its distribution list. By the end of spring 2017, SpikedSeltzer will have completed its national launch.

Nick Shields, SpikedSeltzer co-founder and a Massachusetts native, is a Boston brewing legacy: He is the great-great grandson of Rudolph Haffenreffer, who opened what would eventually become the Sam Adams Brewery. As a fifth-generation beer maker, Shields decided to capitalize on the alcoholic beverage industry’s growing demand for hard soda.

“I brought to the brewing industry this desire to take back some of the lost ground to wine and spirits by making something similar to what people are demanding,” Shields told Boston Magazine.

His plan worked: Along with co-founder and longtime friend Dave Holmes, Shields was able to grow SpikedSeltzer from five gallon batches to more than 500,000 case equivalents in just three years. Now, with a national expansion nearly complete, this number will likely continue to increase.

It’s no wonder the SpikedSeltzer team is looking forward to spring.
