Olympic gold medalist and Needham native Aly Raisman has joined the #AerieREAL spring campaign in the title of Role Model. Aerie, a clothing brand that stopped retouching its models in 2014, prides itself on promoting body positivity and female empowerment. Role Models were chosen for their “influential voices, unique stories, and self-made success,” according to a press release from the brand.Raisman is joined by another local celebrity, multi-platinum and award winning singer-songwriter Rachel Platten of Newton; as well as actress, activist, and future Harvard student Yara Shahidi; and body positivity activist Iskra Lawrence, who became the first Aerie Role Model in February 2016.

“We’ve all been through something that, in the end, will make you a stronger person,” Raisman said in the press release.
Raisman is an outspoken advocate for body positivity, as well as for victims of sexual abuse. She recently gave a powerful victim impact statement at the sentencing hearing for former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, whom she says molested her under the guise of medical treatment.
All four Aerie Role Models will participate in Real Talk speaking engagements at Aerie stores. They will also design exclusive products with 100 percent of sales going to a charity of their choosing in March.
