New Balance’s new Boston running shoe is fit for royalty
Boston-based New Balance is rolling out a limited edition running shoe just for this city.
Starting Monday, the Fresh Foam Zante v3 Boston is available for purchase online, and on Saturday, it will be available at select local retailers.
This is the sixth consecutive year that New Balance has designed a running shoe specifically for Boston. Last year, the company released a limited edition line of light gray shoes that paid homage to the “moody, cloudy skies that last through winter,” said Sara Wild, New Balance product manager for performance running wear.
The 2017 Boston shoe comes in a vibrant purple.
“Colors have meaning,” Wild said. “Purple is associated with royalty, and though we’re biased because we are based in Boston, it’s one of the best cities in the world.”
Aside from the color, the Fresh Foam Zante v3 Boston has other attributes not found on the standard version of the shoe model. The word “Boston” appears on the shoe three times: on the sole, side, and tongue. Black reflective material on the logo, tongue, and back of the heel creates a “rainbow-like” reflection when the sunlight hits. And the inside of the shoe is lined with a patriotic stars and stripes pattern.
