The MBTA would like to politely remind you not to take your shoes off on the train
Unfortunately, it was a necessary reminder.
There are lots of ambiguities to MBTA etiquette. Do you really need to move all the way to the center of the train if you’re getting off at the next stop? Do you need to take your backpack off and stick it at your feet even if it’s relatively small? Eating a full meal on the train is a no-no, but what about a quick snack, like a small plastic bag of grapes?
One thing we can all agree on, however, is that this passenger, called out in a tweet Wednesday night by the MBTA Transit Police, is unambiguously breaking at least three unwritten rules.
#MBTA Etiquette: Let’s just say, this is NOT your living room !! Please 1 passenger 1 seat & try to keep shoes on.TY pic.twitter.com/PWl8W84pRa

1. Don’t take your shoes off. Just don’t do it.
2. If for some reason you have to take your shoes off, don’t drape your legs across multiple seats.
3. If for some reason you have to take your shoes off AND drape your legs across multiple seats, DEFINITELY don’t wrap your feet around the pole that hundreds of passengers will be touching in the coming hours.
The Transit Police put it best: the T is not your living room. Have some dignity.
