A local salon treated military family members to makeovers
West Roxbury’s Unique Salon offered the complimentary services on Valentine’s Day.
A salon in West Roxbury offered a special treat to Massachusetts military families this Valentine’s Day.
Unique Salon gave free makeovers to those who have a relative serving overseas or have lost a relative in the line of duty. The event, dubbed “Beauty and Bravery,’’ offered complimentary haircuts, blowdrys, and professional makeup as a pick-me-up for Massachusetts military families.
Lynn Eliopoulos, co-owner of Unique, hosted the event. Eliopoulos’s son returned from Afghanistan last November and will soon be serving in Iraq and Syria, Patch reported.

Cathy Varetimos, Eliopoulos’s sister-in-law and owner of Wellesley salon Beauty and Main, which partnered with Unique Salon for the event, told WHDH that she wanted to treat military families to a nice day where they can be happy again.
The event helped serve as a support group for the women. One patron, Kim Rowean-Finley, who has a son serving with the Marines in Afghanistan, told WHDH that the special treatment was incredible.
We’ve got children going overseas and it’s not easy,’’ she told WHDH.
This won’t be the last time Unique Salon pampers military families. They hope to provide these makeovers twice a year, according to Patch, and may extend the service to help domestic abuse victims and homeless women.
