Cambridge among list of Queerest cities in America

In fact, five of the top 15 cities are in New England.

LGBT publication The Advocate published a ranking of the “Queerest Cities in America, 2016,’’ and two of the top three happen to lie right here in New England.

Hartford, Connecticut takes the top spot, with Cambridge, Massachusetts coming in third after Inglewood, California. New Haven, Connecticut was also a contender, making the list at number five. Waterbury, Connecticut and Manchester, New Hampshire were just outside of the top ten, ranking at 13 and 14, respectively.

The Advocate used conventional criteria for their ranking — having an openly queer mayor and non-discrimination protections in adoption garnered points — but they also included some more playful considerations, like Carly Rae Jepsen tour concerts and “Scream Queens/American Horror Story viewing parties.’’

For number-three Cambridge, The Advocate recommends visitors, “Attend a gay-friendly event at Porter Square Books or book a room at the gay-owned and super-stylish Clarendon Square Inn.’’
