Could Allston get a cool new community space this summer?
Skate park? Check. Vintage market? Check. Bicycle co-op? Check. On Monday, Mayor Marty Walsh will announce the opening of POP Allston, a new community center that will house all of the above and more.
During the public announcement at the space at 89 Brighton Ave. in Allston, the mayor will detail the center, which is “a pop-up community space in Allston Village that will feature an indoor skate park sponsored by Converse, a Vintage Market and a Pop Up DIY Bike Shop,’’ according to the venue’s new website.

The center is anticipated to open sometime this summer. The skate park will be designed and managed by Orchard Skate Shop and be called the Orchard Conservatory Skatepark. It’s one of the world’s first free, public indoor skate parks and will be “… spread across the second and third floors of the building, nearly 10,000 square feet, with varying unique and inspiring terrain on each floor,’’ according to POP Allston’s website.
Oliver Best Markets will be a vintage market from Justin E. Pomerleau, Allston resident and founder of Vivant Vintage, a popular store in lower Allston. The bicycle co-op will be run by CommonWheels, a non-profit, volunteer-run collective.
