Wiffles for Recovery Event to Be Hosted at Florian Hall

The staff at Aidan’s Barber Shop is pulling out all the stops to raise funds for four-year-old Tommy Kelly of Dorchester, who was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer earlier this summer. Owner Heather Flynn and her team will buzz heads on Monday, August 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Florian Hall in Dorchester Center, with all proceeds and donations going toward Kelly and his family, reports the Dorchester Reporter.

The idea came after a photo of Kelly with his father, Edward, and their matching wiffle cuts was posted and shared through social media. The Reporter says that Kelly’s father also buzzed his hair “as a sign of solidarity for Tommy’s anticipated hair loss from his cancer treatments.’’ Edward, the president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts union, and his family have received a great level of support from the community and a second event for Tommy is planned for late November.

The Kelly family writes:

The level of support we’ve received has left us overwhelmed, even a little embarrassed. A thank you will never articulate the strength you all have given us. Please keep praying for Tommy as we travel through the challenges ahead, and please keep all sick children in your prayers!
