Reimagine
The image on the cover or our annual Renovations issue, on newsstands and online next week, is of the daring reinvention of a 1950s split-level home west of Boston. For this “Suburban Renewal,” architect Andrew Sidford of Andrew M. Sidford Architects of Newburyport, Massachusetts, designed an angular “implant,” an addition that bisects the structure and extends beyond its foundation. At the front, it houses a dining room sheathed in glass (pictured above), on the rear it enshrines a private master suite exposed to the stars. Dreamy renovations also took place on Martha’s Vineyard, where a landmark church and parsonage became a stylish vacation compound, and in southeastern Massachusetts, where an old dairy barn was moved to the banks of the Westport River to become the quintessential artist’s studio.
