Happy 4th!

Our design-centric ode to Independence Day continues with red, white, and blue hues at center stage. These three fantastic colors fit every space and style — from the minimalist modern to wallpapered traditional — and take on many personae. So sit back, enjoy the sunshine, and see just how versatile our country’s color scheme can be.

The bright white Porsche P’7340 kitchen from Poggenphol (above) has a futuristic luminescence, thanks to its titanium aluminum frame and built-in lighting (from our Jan/Feb 10 Kitchen). Hand-made rugs (below) add an Americana touch to a revitalized 200-year-old Rockport, Maine, farmstead’s kitchen (from our Sept/Oct 10 feature).

Subway tiles paired with original washstand and mirror, salvaged from the 1890s Queen Anne, give the bath (above, left) a light, unassuming air. The seating area’s (above, right) color palette, right down to the dishware and table linens, mimics that of the owner’s childhood home. A minimalist Maine house (below) was dubbed, by its owners, “cardinal in the woods” because of the exterior’s distinctive crimson stain. (All from our Jan/Feb 09 issue.)
