Boston native and Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum” star James B. Jones is speaking out against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s comments about autism.
Kennedy has come under fire for the remarks he made at a press conference last week.
“These are kids who will never pay taxes, they’ll never hold a job, they’ll never play baseball, they’ll never write a poem, they’ll never go out on a date,” he said.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Jones denounced Kennedy’s statements, calling them “flagrantly false,” and spoke about his own experience.
“I have a permanent 40-hour per week job with benefits, which I have held steadily since 2017 and am in no danger of losing,” Jones told PEOPLE. “I can operate a vehicle with no issues. I pay all of my own expenses.”
Jones said Kennedy’s comments were made from a “position of extreme ignorance.”
“Autism manifests itself differently in every person,” Jones told the magazine. “No two people who have it are exactly the same.”
