June 1 is Global Running Day, on which amateur and professional athletes from 164 countries run to show their love of the sport.

More than two million people have pledged to run today, and one of them is 2014 Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi. Keflezighi appeared on the Boston Marathon’s official Twitter account Wednesday morning, hitting the pavement bright and early.

Keflezighi was the first American to win Boston in 31 years when he took the title in 2014. Though he didn’t reclaim the title in 2015, he had a heart-warming moment when he crossed the Boylston Street finish line holding hands with a female competitor.

Those who woke up early enough for a 7 a.m. run Wednesday had the chance to stride alongside the athlete Wednesday.

If you didn’t get out of bed in time, you can still join group runs at 12:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. at the Boston Marathon Adidas RunBase on Boylston, hosted by the Boston Athletic Association.

June 1 also marks the first-ever Million Kid Run on Global Running Day, which aims to get young people moving by encouraging one million children around the world to pledge to run on Wednesday.
