The CDC just released an obesity map of the United States
The prevalence of adult obesity in the United States remains high, according to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The federal agency released maps on Monday that illustrate the rate of adult obesity state-by-state.
Using data gathered from 2014, the CDC found that no state had a prevalence of adult obesity less than 20 percent. But the midwest had the highest prevalence at 30.7 percent, the south followed close behind at 30.6 percent, the northeast came in at 27.3 percent, and the west was lowest at 25.6 percent.
In three states — Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia — the obesity rate exceeded 35 percent.
Massachusetts ranked No. 48 among the states at 23.3 percent, according to State of Obesity, holding at the same ranking it received a year ago.
