‘Orange Is The New Black’ Star Uzo Aduba Will Run 2015 Boston Marathon
Attention all OITNB fans!
Uzo Aduba, most well-known for playing “Crazy Eyes’’ on the Netflix hit show, “Orange Is The New Black,’’ will run in the 2015 Boston Marathon in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The actress hails from Medfield, Mass. and is a 2005 graduate of Boston University, where she majored in classical voice in the College of Fine Arts and sprinted on the track team. In 2014, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
Aduba said she is proud to run the marathon in her home city.
“Running the Boston Marathon has been a lifelong dream, and I am proud to be supporting Dana-Farber as I make this dream come true on April 20,’’ said Aduba in a statement. “As someone who grew up outside of Boston, I’ve always respected Dana-Farber’s groundbreaking work in cancer research. I’m honored to be a member of their team, helping to raise money to further this work so that one day we may all live in a world without cancer.’’
Aduba will become a part of a 500-person Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team, which hopes to raise $5.2 million for the Dana-Farber Claudia Adams Bar Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.
“We are thrilled to welcome Uzo Aduba to the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge this season,’’ said Jan Ross, senior director of Running Programs at Dana-Farber in a statement. “It’s an honor to count Uzo as one of our dedicated DFMC teammates who commit to making a difference by supporting cancer research at Dana-Farber.’’
