Hey Boston, If NYC Survived Ebola, We Can Too

New York’s Ebola panic was so bad they gave up bowling! Don’t follow in their footsteps. AFP/Getty Images

Most of you probably know by now that Boston has a suspected Ebola case.

The patient, who is currently in stable condition and good spirits at Mass. General Hospital, has been routinely monitored by the Boston Public Health Commission and meets the CDC standards for “a person under investigation’’ for possibly having Ebola.

For many people in the area, this was their first reaction to that news:

But to that, we have just one thing to say: Calm the #!&$ down.

Remember that just over a month ago, New York was crippled with fear over an Ebola case that was actually confirmed. They barricaded themselves in their homes, they forfeited their God-given American right to go bowling, and they even set up mandatory quarantines for aid workers returning from West Africa. All that, and can you guess what happened?

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing happened. Their Ebola patient was cured and released. No one else contracted the virus. Things went back to normal. Heck, the fear was more contagious than the virus itself. New Jersey caught a case of that fear and quarantined a Maine nurse against her will until doctors could prove she didn’t have Ebola.

The odds of Boston being any different than New York are slim to none. Ever since Ebola cases started popping up in the United States, we’ve been explaining all the ways in which you are not going to catch it. We eased your fears with a list of all the things more likely to kill you. We educated you by tracking the latest Ebola news on a daily basis. We even talked to an actual doctor!

And yet, there are plenty of people reacting to this news like a bunch of survivalists.

Get it together, Boston. This Ebola case isn’t even confirmed and people are already losing their minds. Settle down. Maybe get out of the house for a while. Go bowling, for God’s sake!
