Gisele wore this local knitwear company’s hooded scarf, and here’s how you can too

The Third Piece's 'The Newbury' costs $268.

A Boston knitwear company is having a fantastic week after supermodel Gisele Bundchen was spotted wearing one of its winter accessories on Sunday.

In the shared photo, Bundchen is snuggling up and smiling with husband Tom Brady at an outdoor hockey game in Brookline, according to US Weekly. As first reported by Boston magazine, the hat/scarf combo she’s sporting is made by Boston’s The Third Piece.

“It’s obviously a total, amazing freak-out,” said Kate Neary, social media director for The Third Piece, about the company’s reaction to Bundchen wearing the hat. “It’s such a small team, and we all work so hard. To see someone like Gisele wearing it because she really likes it, and having it be someone who is so huge for the Boston area wearing it in Boston, it really kind of solidifies that incredible feeling you have that you’re making an impact and representing the area.”

The steel-colored, hooded cowl scarf, called “The Newbury,” costs $268 and comes in several other colors. The company sent Bundchen the hat/scarf combo, its best-selling item, in fall 2015, Neary said. Bundchen was also spotted wearing the item last January.

Sales for The Newbury have increased this week, Neary said.

“It was an almost immediate response,” she said. “Our knitters are busy, busy, busy working on making more.”

If you know how to knit and don’t mind making the item yourself, you can buy it for a little more than a third of the price. The Third Piece offers “knit kits” for their items, which contain the materials and instructions for making the product at home. If you need help knitting your piece, the online company hosts knit nights at its pop-up location at 177 Newbury St., which is open through the end of January, and at other community locations throughout the year. The knit kit for The Newbury costs $95.

The company pays homage to the area with its other products, too, selling beanies called The Fenway and The Harvard and a scarf dubbed The Nantucket. Prices range from $28 for a ball of yarn to $498 for a sweater. The shop also sells home goods, including blankets and pillows. All of its products are made with merino wool yarn.

In honor of Gisele’s hat choice this week, the company is advertising 20 percent off The Newbury on its website when shoppers use the code “NEWBURYLOVE.”
