Wear High Heels and Men Will Pay Attention to You, Science Reveals
HEY LADIES! We finally have a scientifically proven method for getting guys to notice us!
All we have to do is wear high heels. That’s according to a study by researchers at the Université de Bretagne-Sud, who gauged how the height of a woman’s heels affected how helpful men and women were to her.
The results, printed in Springer’s Archives of Sexual Behavior journal, documented three experiments, based on interactions with a woman wearing various heel heights and pedestrians in a small French town. In the first experiment, the 19-year-old woman asked men and women to participate in a survey. In the second, she “unknowingly’’ dropped a glove. Men, in both experiments, were more likely to assist if her heels were higher—women behaved the same regardless of her shoe height.
In the final experiment, the researchers tested mens’ independent willingness to approach their subject in a social situation. She went to a bar and waited, shifting between the three heel heights. Men, ages 20-28, were most likely to strike up conversation when the subject’s heels were the highest. The researchers concluded that the high heels translated to her being perceived as “more interesting’’ by the men at the bar.
Overall, researchers determined that the higher the heels, the more feminine the woman was perceived by men. Also, higher heels affected a woman’s gait and posture, physically changing her appearance. The researchers surmised that, by seeing women wearing high heels in the media, men had been conditioned to view them as more sexually available, much as men have been conditioned to prefer blondes by seeing them overrepresented in the pages of Playboy magazine (or so another study determined).
They write:
Thus, the over-association of high heels with women’s sexiness and sexual content could lead men to misinterpret the sexual intent of women in high heels. Given that men were more eager for sexual intercourse than women, they were probably more eager to approach a woman wearing high-heeled shoes.
So, friends, wearing flats = #ForeverAlone.
Chivalry is dead.
